About Dr. Jennifer Shapiro
I have been practicing palliative medicine for almost 18 years, caring for more than 2000 people with life-limiting ailments across a wide variety of settings, including in the home, palliative care units, and outpatient clinics. For 13 years, I worked with the home-based care program at the Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care, providing support to patients and families in Toronto. More recently, I joined Sunnybrook, where I focused on non-cancer palliative care, particularly supporting individuals living with ALS and heart failure.
Throughout my career, I have remained comitted to the belief that every patient deserves dignity and comfort, that families need just as much support as their loved ones, and that no one should feel regret about the medical choices they make. My approach is grounded in kindness, compassion, and open communication. I laugh easily, smile often and believe that no concern is ever too small to bring forward.

Beyond medicine, I am happiest spending time with my husband of over 24 years and our three “almost adult” children, who lovingly tease me at every opportunity. I also enjoy hiking in natural environments, cheering for the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Toronto Blue Jays, and indulging in my favourite candies – especially Twizzlers and Jelly Bellies.
